Outreach and Social Concerns
This group focuses on reaching the world
(dimensions of global involvement) with prayers, concern, time, financial
gifts and service. It serves as an advocate for peace and justice in social
issues. In addition to supporting mission activities throughout the world and
disaster relief, contributions are made to many local agencies, like Ventura County Habitat for Humanity, Many Mansions and the Westminster Free Clinic.
Conejo Valley Winter Shelter & Summer Free Meal Program
UMCWV
regularly participates in Conejo Valley programs that help local homeless and
hungry. Along with 28 local churches and synagogues, our church provides
staffing and meals one evening per month. The Winter Shelter (overnight)
operates from Dec. 1 through March 31 and the free Meal Program operates from
April 1 through Nov. 30.
Alternative Christmas Gift Market
This annual holiday market allows shoppers
to contribute to local, national and worldwide charities that help provide others'
basic needs. By purchasing a gift in a person's honor, the "gift" is sent to the
charity. In lieu of a gift, an honor card is sent to the person in whose honor the "gift" was given.
CROP Walk
This annual Church World Service event is held in March of each
year. Walkers recruit sponsors for this 10-kilometer "walk" and that income is
used to help support hunger programs locally, nationally and globally.
Mission of the Month
The Outreach and Social Concerns Committee selects one project to be highlighted each month. The purpose is to educate, develop
awareness and gain financial support for the project. Articles are published in the
Covenant (the church newsletter) and on the second Sunday of the month a
presentation is made during the Celebration of Worship.
Scouting
UMCWV sponsors both Cub and Boy Scout troops and a Venture Crew to
give boys the opportunity to participate in scouting activities. Cub Scout Pack
#3775 is for boys ages 7 – 10. Boy Scout Troop #775 is for boys ages 11 – 17.
Venture Crew is for high-school age boys and girls who take a lead role in
organizing and running their own high-adventure activities.
The Growing Place Preschool and Kindergarten
Growing Place is a program sponsored by UMCWV since 1976 as part of its ministry in the community. It promotes learning for 2 1/2 – 6 year old children through carefully planned experiences that enhance their social, emotional, physical, spiritual and intellectual growth in a nurturing environment. Morning and afternoon lasses are offered Monday through Friday during the school year, plus nine weeks of summer. A summer session is
also available. For more information, please call: (805) 497-7064.

Westlake Village Music Society
As a community outreach program started in
1992, Music Ministry sponsors 2 - 4 classical concerts per year in the sanctuary.
It offers opportunities for area residents to hear outstanding artists in concert for
a reasonable cost.
Pizazz Music Camp
Started in 1993, this weeklong program is held the 2nd week of
August each summer. Children (120) in the church and community – entering 1st-8th grades in the fall – are invited to participate in a music adventure, making use
of singing, handbell and choir chime ringing, choreographed movement and
music enrichment classes. The basic and more advanced techniques of reading,
singing and playing music, as well as rhythm and movement are taught by
a highly qualified staff. Participants put on a Celebration Performance on Friday
evening.
UMCWV also has several community organizations that meet weekly at the church, i.e. Conejo Singles, Aloholics Anonymous, Adult Children of Alcoholics and Al-Anon.
